Parking Lot Blues

Inclement weather keeps the Whitemarsh Township Building's new roof in the parking lot.

Though the Whitemarsh Board of Supervisors approved a new roof for the township building in August, most of the materials remain in the township building parking lot.

Whitemarsh Township Manager Richard Mellor said Monday that lousy weather has delayed the installation of a new roof on the building; he added that the large, Dumpster-sized structures in the parking lot – and one on the roof – contain the materials necessary to install the roof.

According to the meeting minutes, the township supervisors voted unanimously on Aug. 15 to install a new roof on the building, located in the 600 block of Germantown Pike. Mike Kobithen Roofing and Insulation Inc., out of Philadelphia, won the bid and the township will shell out a shade under $152,000 for the project, which will come out of the capital budget.

Mellor said the current roof on the township building is about 20 years old; the new roof will come with a 20-year warranty, according to the minutes.

As for completion, Mellor said he expects the new roof to be installed in about three weeks.
