PECO Closes Portion Of Butler Pike For 30 Days To Install New Gas Main

A portion of Butler Pike in Montgomery County will be shuttered for a month as PECO utility workers install a new natural gas main.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — A portion of Butler Pike in Whitemarsh Township will be closed down for a 30-day period as PECO crews work to install a new natural gas main.

PECO announced that Butler Pike will be blocked off completely beginning Monday, and running through the next 30 days, between 5160 Butler Pike and 5168 Butler Pike so crews can safely perform the natural gas main work.

The utility company said that detours would be clearly marked in the area.

Those residents who live south of 5160 Butler Pike are being asked to enter and exit their residences via Campus Drive, and those who reside north of 5168 Butler Pike are being told they should enter and exit their homes and businesses via Stenton Avenue or Township Like Road.

Motorists are being asked to drive carefully and at reduced speeds in the area to ensure the safety of utility workers.

"During this work, we will work closely with local officials to minimize the impact on traffic and pedestrians whenever possible," PECO stated in an announcement. "Access for services such as trash removal and emergency vehicles will be maintained during construction."

PECO said that any areas impacted on individual properties would be repaired and restored to their original condition upon completion of the work.
