Pre-Construction Activities On Ridge Pike In Montco Begins Next Week

Road crews will start pre-construction activities on Ridge Pike between Crescent and Northwestern Avenues in Montgomery County.

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA — Road crews early next week will begin preparing a section of Ridge Pike for a planned improvement project.

The Montgomery County Office of Communications issued an alert Friday saying that beginning next Monday, pre-construction activities will commence on Ridge Pike between Crescent Avenue and Northwestern Avenue in Springfield Township.

Drivers were told to expect to encounter single lane closures with flagging during the hours of 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Aug. 8 to 11 in various locations throughout the corridor.

At that time, tree-clearing and utility relocation activities would be taking place in connection with Section D of the Ridge Pike Improvement Project, which is a redesign of the roadway from Crescent Avenue in Whitemarsh and Springfield Townships to the border with Northwest Philadelphia.

Montgomery County officials said that the project includes a "full-depth roadway reconstruction that improves safety and reduces congestion."

During the project, workers will add traffic signals at Crescent and Barren Hill Roads, add an eastbound thru-lane between Harts Lane and Northwestern Avenue, and add stormwater management facilities.

The project is also designed to improve pedestrian safety and transit accessibility by providing a continuous sidewalk along the southwestern side of Ridge Pike and by consolidating SEPTA bus stops and making them ADA compliant, the county announced.

Construction on the entire Ridge Pike project is expected to last through some time in 2024.
