PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, PA — The sinkhole in Plymouth Township has now shut down Plymouth Road in both directions, PennDOT announced this week, as crews continue to excavate deeper in the area surrounding the hole.

The closure is in place between Butler Pike and Rittenhouse Square.

Plymouth Road had already been shut down in the northbound direction ever since the sinkhole was discovered on May 3.

No timeline for the reopening of the road has been announced. PennDOT said only that their contractor needs to make the "necessary repairs" before the highway can be safely opened.

A detour is in place taking traffic to Germantown Pike, Joshua Road, and Flourtown Road.
