Thousands Without Power In Whitemarsh

WHITEMARSH, PA — The severe storms that swept through the area Thursday caused some significant damage in the Whitemarsh area, knocking out power for thousands of residents.

Traffic signals are out in several areas, officials said. This means that drivers should treat those intersections like stop signs.

"We have been in constant communication with PECO, who is working throughout the area and the county to restore power," Whitemarsh police said. "Please be careful while traveling, as several roads in the area are closed do to down trees and power lines."

In Montgomery County, a total of 47,218 residents are without power.

Whitemarsh is amongst the hardest hit, with 2,129 outages as of Friday morning. Nearby Plymouth Township currently has 946 outages.

The township has made public charging stations available at Barrenhill Fire Co, Spring Mill Fire Co, and the Whitemarsh Township Police Department lobby for those who need to charge devices.

Restoration times vary from a few hours to several days, with some locations likely facing a weekend without power.

Residents who have damage on their property like downed wires should contact PECO at 1-800-841-4141.
