Whitemarsh Couple Reports Possible Sweepstakes Scam

A Whitemarsh Township man reported a possible scam after communicating with a phone operator from “Strike it Rich VIII,” according to the Whitemarsh Police

The man said that he and his wife initially received correspondence via mail regarding a prize, and that they had to call a 1-800 number to claim it.

After giving the operator his social security number and other personal information, he realized it might be a scam when the operator had no knowledge of the letter he received.

The man was instructed by police on how to protect his credit.
