Woman Falls in Front of Train at Fort Washington Station: Police

The woman fell between the tracks Monday night.

A Fort Washington woman seemingly jumped in front of a northbound SEPTA train Monday night, authorities said.

According to Whitemarsh Township Police Chief Mike Beaty, emergency crews were called to the area at about 9:30 p.m.

“Witnesses saw a 40-year-old female — when the train started pulling in — the 40-year-old female basically jumped in front of the train as it pulled into the station,” Beaty said.

According to Beaty, the woman fell on the northbound side of the tracks; the train was part of the Doylestown Line, originating in Malvern.

The woman fell between the tracks and received minor cuts and bruises, Beaty said. She was then transported to Abington Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Beaty said the woman was speaking with officers when crews pulled her from the tracks.

Beaty said the incident is under investigation. As of 10:55 p.m., the train was still at the station.

SEPTA crews de-energized the train and Beaty said another train would arrive to pick up the passengers, who were asked to leave the train.
