Cupcake Art And More

The Montgomery County 4H Fair will feature a variety of events, displays and contests.

From Montgomery County's Penn State Cooperative Extension:

• The Montgomery County 4H Fair is proud to host the Mobile Ag Science Lab at it’s annual Fair -- Aug. 11 to 13 -- through the generosity of the Montgomery County Farm Bureau. The Mobile Ag Science Lab comes equipped with an educator and may be viewed during regular fair hours as well as having special demos at designated times. The Mobile Ag Science Lab is available to schools in our region and has been enjoying great success within local schools this past year, including schools in the North Penn, Spring-Ford, Pottstown, Colonial, Abington and Perkiomen Valley School Districts and many more. The Mobile Ag Science Lab addresses agriculture in today’s world while teaching students about the resources that are found around us. It is a must see for school officials such as principals, teachers, home and school members as well as students and families. A complete fair schedule as well as class listings can be found on our website at; extension.psu.edu/Montgomery

• The fair will also include a special baking contest on Aug. 12. Judging will begin at 7 p.m. in the Maple Room. Entries may be entered beginning at 6 p.m. Friday. Entries must have a 3x5 index card with the name of dish, recipe as well as age and name of those involved in creating it. This year’s theme for the contest is “Cupcake Art." Entries will be judged on visual presentation, not taste. All decorations/art items must be edible (no plastic items, beads, etc.) Recipes must be homemade, no store mixes. Only six cupcakes per entry. Individual entrants will be judged according to age: novice under age 8, youth ages 8-12, youth ages 13-18 and adult ages 19 plus. Entries with two or more participants with combined ages will be judged as a group. Please be sure to follow all Food Safety Guidelines: www.fightbac.org.
