Son carries on holiday tradition delivering teddy bears to Pottstown Hospital (pottsmerc.com subscription) — Children spending Christmas at Pottstown Hospital are getting a little extra comfort thanks to Rich Gray, who delivers teddy bears there every Christmas Eve in memory of his late father. The tradition began at Chester County Hospital, but Gray expanded it to Pottstown in 2019 and has kept the promise to brighten local kids’ holidays ever since.

Mercury Roundup (Dec. 22): Pope John Paul II, Methacton each pick up fifth consecutive victories on Monday (pottsmerc.com subscription) — Pottstown’s boys and girls basketball teams both took losses in Monday’s PAC action, with the boys falling to Sankofa Freedom Academy and the girls dropping a road game at Upper Merion despite 12 points from Jayanna Hill. The roundup also tracks key wins and standout performances from nearby programs like Pope John Paul II, Methacton, Spring-Ford, Phoenixville, and Pottsgrove.
   

3. Montgomery County advocate sounds alarm on loss of federal housing dollars (northpennnow.com) — Montgomery County has secured up to 120 homeless shelter beds at a Pottstown hotel as part of a broader push to expand short-term housing across the county. A new 20-bed facility in Lansdale, boosted by a $1 million donation, plus additional beds in Norristown, aims to ease federal funding cuts that could otherwise reduce local housing support for people experiencing homelessness.
   

4. Operation Holiday fund tops $78,000; 403 children receive gifts (readingeagle.com) — Operation Holiday, which began at The Mercury in Pottstown, has raised more than $78,000 this year to help local families with food and gifts. The program provided gift cards to 199 families and 403 children across Montgomery, Chester, and Berks counties, and is still accepting donations by mail to its Pottstown P.O. Box and online.
   

5. Montgomery County closes out 2025 with $60.2 million contract package (pottsmerc.com subscription) — Montgomery County has approved a $60.2 million package of contracts for 2026, including nearly $1.5 million for Creative Health Services in Pottstown to support local drug and alcohol treatment. The funding, drawn largely from state and federal sources, also boosts county employee benefits, renewable energy purchases, and emergency food supplies for pantries serving residents across Montgomery County.
