Ex-Pottstown Merchant Testifies he Thought Synthetic Marijuana Was Legal

Former owner of the Achi Store on High Street testified in court that he believed K2, a synthetic marijuana, was legal when he sold it in his store.

A Pottstown man accused of selling K2, a synthetic marijuana, from his Pottstown store testified in court that "he believed the product was legal, on the advice of his business partner, when he sold it from his store," according to a report in the Pottstown Mercury.

As previously reported on Patch, Rafie Ali, owner of Achi Store on High Street, was charged in July 2012 for the illegal sale of K2, related to the . Store employee Mohammed K. Himed, of the Bronx, NY, was also charged.

"Ali did not contest that the vials seized from the store contained controlled substances or that he sold them. However, Ali continued to maintain that at the time he sold them he assumed the products were legal," according to the Pottstown Mercury.

Himed pled guilty to the charges of "corrupt organizations and various drug-related offenses in connection with the incidents," according to the Mercury. He is currently awaiting sentencing.
