Five Things You Need To Know Today

Pottstown and surrounding areas offer a variety of activities.

• Slice Hair Studio -- a new eco conscious salon that opened four weeks ago in the Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia -- will be at the 2nd Street Festival Sunday to provide free haircuts for folks who donate their hair to Locks of Love. The salon will also install feather extensions by Featherheads and donate $1 to Locks of Love for each extension installed. Learn more at 2ndstreetfestival.org. 

• The Montgomery Bar Association's Women in the Law Committee, in conjunction with Montgomery County Office of Children and Youth, will host a school supply drive to benefit children in foster care in Montgomery County. The drive will be held at 100 W Airy St. in Norristown 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays through Aug. 12.

• National Night Out will be held at 500 Chestnut St., Pottstown, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 2. The event promotes taking a stand against drugs and crime. Food and refreshments will be provided. • Freedom Valley YMCA on Aug. 2 will host the 25th Annual Golf Outing at Rivercrest Golf Club, 100 Golf Club Drive, Phoenixville. The event is open to the public. Learn more at www.fvymca.org or call 484-674-6224. 

• The Please Touch Museum, 4231 Avenue of the Republic Ave, Philadelphia, will host a financial literacy program for children. The event runs Aug. 2 through Sept. 30 at the museum and includes a theater show, story time, banker PTM Puppet Pal, interactive workshop and Design Your Dime activity.
