Future Of Post Offices Uncertain

The USPS is expected to close roughly 11 percent of its post offices nationwide.

• The U.S. Postal Service is expected to announce a plan to close 3,653 post offices, mostly in small communities, in a cost-cutting measure, the UPI.com reports. The list of closures, which equals roughly 11 percent of the USPS' post offices nationwide, is expected to be made public Tuesday by Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe.

• The Office of Student Leadership and Involvement will host a Miller Keystone Blood Drive Blood Drive at Montgomery County Community College’s West Campus from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Aug. 10. • During the Montgomery County 4-H Fair there will be a workshop for moms and dads who want to learn quick and easy ways to prepare vegetables from the garden or farmer’s market. “Tomatoes, Squash and Beans - Oh My!!” is a 45-minute presentation that will share ideas on new ways to cook and serve garden vegetables. The class will also explore ways to save vegetables from the summer garden and farm market for the fall and winter months. Cooking demonstrations will be presented and door prizes and recipes will be shared. The event will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 p.m. Aug. 13 at the Montgomery County 4-H Center, 1015 Bridge Road (Rt. 113), Creamery, PA 19430. • Middle school students from the Pottstown area recently participatedin Montgomery County Community College’s one-week camp, “How Scientists View the Environment” at the West Campus in Pottstown. MCCC created the program as the result of a $10,000 grant received earlier this year from the TD Charitable Foundation, the charitable giving arm of TD Bank. The program encourages youth to explore the growing career field.
