Living in a two-bedroom apartment with her three granddaughters, Debra has been sleeping on the couch for the past several years. She said she is thrilled to start her journey to homeownership and is already dreaming of landscaping ideas for the backyard and paint colors for the bedrooms.
But Debra said she is mostly happy for her granddaughters because her biggest dream of all has been for a safe, stable place for her girls to call home. Now, her dream is becoming a reality.
Now in its 31st year, Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery and Delaware Counties’ mission is partnering with local residents to provide a “hand up” by helping build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable, 0 percent interest mortgage.
Habitat also provides low-cost home repairs, financial literacy, and empowerment education courses, and revitalizes neighborhoods. With your support, partner families achieve the strength, stability, and independence they need to build a better future. To learn more, go here.
