Moment With The Mayor

Pottstown Mayor Bonnie Heath promotes upcoming community events.

• The National Night Out celebration will be held at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 2 in the borough's park on Chestnut and Washington streets.

The event includes a "huge block party and shouldn't be missed," Heath said via e-mail. "The party's theme is "anti-crime and reclaiming our neighborhoods. There will be fun and food for everyone."

• New businesses have opened in Pottstown including McLicky's -- an ice cream and water ice restaurant at 250 E. High Street -- and Patterson's Car Wash, 618 King Street.

Patterson's features "a top-notch auto detailing business on King and Adams that even has valet service," that includes pick-up and delivery of your car while you're at work. "My car now looks like new! Prices are reasonable and the staff is reliable," Heath said.

• Final preparations are under way for the second annual Open Doors Celebration on Sept. 10.

"It is a borough-wide open house, welcome back to school, bring the community together event that was a huge success last year, drawing over 5,000 people," Heath said. "It begins at Smith Family Plaza (beside Borough Hall) where first responders will be honored and those who (died on Sept. 11, 2001) will be remembered. The rest of the day will be a celebration of our community and our schools, concluding with a home football game ... What makes these events successful is the participation of each end every person in the borough ... This will honor the work of the school district, the churches, the businesses, the borough, and our children."

• Plans are under way to launch a "huge project" in cooperation with entities in and around Pottstown. "We will soon be discussing this on WPAZ."
