Neighborhood Association A Fixture In Parade

The Historic Pottstown Neighborhood Association has participated in Pottstown's annual July 4th parade for over 25 years.

The Historic Pottstown Neighborhood Association will enter a float in the borough's Fourth of July celebration holiday parade.

The neighborhood group has participated in the annual event for over 25 years and displayed floats that were historic or Victorian themed including Clydesdale-pulled trolleys, Victorian ladies and antique cars, said Amy Wolf, HPNA president, in a news release.

“We decided a few years ago to create floats with a more updated and modern feel to reflect the diverse group of people we have living within our district and the fun we have living downtown," she said. "The float title this year is 'Historic Pottstown is our Hidden Treasure' and will have a pirate-theme, complete with palm trees, treasure chest and of course, plenty of pirates and maidens."

HPNA are "very enthusiastic" about living downtown, she said.

“We feel we know something special that others might not have caught on to yet – that it’s safe and fun to live in downtown Pottstown, there are great restaurants and businesses right in our own backyard, and most of all, we have fantastic friends and neighbors. We are a really tight-knit group," Wolf said. "That’s why we feel Pottstown is a hidden treasure others haven’t discovered yet.”

HPNA was created in the early 1970’s to help "preserve and beautify the downtown historic neighborhood," she said.

"Over the years, it has grown into a social organization that is committed to those same goals," Wolf said. "The HPNA’s biggest event is the Historic Pottstown by Candlelight tour, which occurs every December. The group’s mission is to maintain a friendly, clean and safe neighborhood."

The HPNA neighborhood is bounded by Manatawny, Beech, Charlotte and King streets. Any resident or property-owner within the area is welcome to be a member of the association. Membership is free.
