Pottstown Junior ROTC Wins Distinguished Unit Award
Pottstown High School's Air Force Junior ROTC performed "above and beyond normal expectations."
The Pottstown High School Air Force Junior ROTC unit is one of 184 units to receive the 2010-2011 Air Force Junior Reserve Officers Training Corp Distinguished Unit Award, according to a press release for the school.
The award acknowledges Air Force Junior ROTC units that performed “above and beyond normal expectations and distinguished themselves through outstanding service to their school and community,” the release states.

Led by Lt. Col. James Porter and Master Sgt. Donald MacNeil, the 80-member unit is recognized for personal growth and “accomplishments of the cadets and their support of school and community,” the release states. “The Distinguished Unit Award is limited to the best of the best of the nation’s 900 Air Force Junior ROTC units. The objectives of the Junior ROTC program are to educate and train high school cadets in citizenship and life skills, promote community service, instill responsibility, character and self-discipline through character education, and to provide instruction in air and space fundamentals.”
The award marks the 12th consecutive year for Pottstown’s ROTC to be recognized for outstanding achievement.
