Limerick Police were dispatched to a robbery at 7-Eleven, 301 South Lewis Road, in Royersford after a store clerk reported a male wearing a hockey mask and holding a large knife or sword entered the store through the front door, the release states.

“The male came behind the counter pointing the large knife at the clerk and said, ‘Give me the money.’ The clerk turned over an undisclosed amount of money (to) the actor. The actor fled the store on foot,” the release states.

Around 5 a.m., Pottstown Police detained a suspect at the 7-Eleven on High Street in Pottstown.

“The Limerick 7-Eleven clerk made a positive identification of the actor. The actor was taken into custody and identified as Dan Mungin of Spring City, Chester County,” the release states.

Pottstown Sgt. Robert Thomas saw a red Honda Civic parked behind the store. A male in the car was later identified as Kyle Weikel of Upper Providence Township. Thomas also found a machete and hockey mask in the vehicle, the release states.

Another robbery was reported at Sunoco, intersection of Routes 100 and 23 in South Coventry Township, Chester County, where the Limerick 7-Eleven clerk identified Mungin as the actor who robbed his store. In that robbery, an undisclosed amount of cigarettes and cash was taken, the release states.

Police determined Mungin was involved in an additional robbery that occurred earlier at the 7-Eleven on Main Street in West Norriton Township.

“An undisclosed amount of money was taken in that robbery as well,” the release states.

Original Story

Pottstown and police departments responded to a spree of convenience store robberies early this morning.

The events involved stores in South Coventry Township, Royersford and Pottstown.

“Our officers knew about the previous robberies and were watching our local stores,” said F. Richard Drumheller, Captain of Police, Pottstown Police Dept., via email.

The incidents allegedly included two male robbers, he said.

“When they showed up in Pottstown they were greeted by Sgt. (Robert) Thomas and (five) members of his squad," Drumheller said. "We also captured the getaway driver.”

Drumheller said he was unaware of whether the alleged robbers were armed at the first two stores.

“But we later found a switchblade and a machete was located in the getaway car,” Drumheller said.

Pottstown police will incorporate their case with Limerick’s, Drumheller said.

“We contacted Limerick Township Police regarding their robbery and based upon all the available information turned over the investigation to Limerick,” Drumheller said.
