Pottstown Under Severe Storm Watch
Pottstown could see another typical summer storm this evening, but Wednesday and Thursday nights are expected to be significantly cooler and pleasant.

Pottstown could see another strong storm today, said Dave Samuhel, senior meteorologist for AccuWeather.com.
The area is under a “watch,” which means there’s a chance of a storm in the general area. A “warning” pertains to a more specific storm that has a history of trouble, he said.
“The main threat would be strong winds,” he said of scattered storms that could bring 40 to 60 mph gusts.

Additionally, “some very decent amounts of lightening could happen,” he said.
“It’s moving pretty slow,” Samuhel said. “Heavy rainfall is a concern with this storm, too.”

Pottstown was pounded with roughly .75 inches of rain earlier today, he said. That will help balance the area’s water deficit.
So far this month, Pottstown received nearly two inches, or half the normal monthly average of rain, he said. June and July, however, were far below average and combined brought only 3.5 inches of rain.
“The storms should definitely help,” Samuhel said.
In addition to some needed water, the area will also see cooler temperatures and lower humidity, he said.
Wednesday and Thursday will bring highs in the 80-degree range and lows in the upper 50s, he said.
“It should be a lot less humid … looks very nice,” Samuhel said. “So, finally a break from this heat.”
