'Stop Scaring Seniors'

A Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid Rally is set for this morning.

A coalition of advocates and volunteers from the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare plan to hold a public rally and discussion today on the threat of cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid as part of federal deficit reduction.

The rally will bring together seniors, retirees and other supporters to demand that the Congressional Super Committee and the members of the Berks County Congressional delegation keep their hands off Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

The National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare recently launched the “HANDS OFF-NO CUTS” campaign to stop threatened cuts to three of the nation’s most valued income security and health insurance programs; Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

The National Committee has more than 167,000 members and supporters in the state of Pennsylvania.

Campaign activities will be focused on members of Congress and the 12-member Deficit Reduction Super Committee and will include local and national radio and TV advertising, town halls, social media, petition drives, phone campaigns, and local or regional events.     

A Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid Rally is planned for 10 a.m. Oct. 28 at the Berks Encore Senior Center, 40 North 9th Street, Reading, PA 19601.

The National Committee, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization acts in the interests of its membership through advocacy, education, services, grassroots efforts and the leadership of the Board of Directors and professional staff. The work of the National Committee is directed toward developing better-informed citizens and voters.
