Viewfinder: Racers Take Hill

The Pottstown Soap Box Derby was held on the Wilson Street hill off State Street today.

“They never grow up, do they,” Barbara Frisco nodded her head and laughed while she watched a grown man squeeze into a handmade car. Frisco was at the Pottstown Soap Box Derby race on the Wilson Street hill off State Street today. 

She said her son, Paul Frisco, helped at the event, which featured youth racers including Sydney Drumheller, 13, an Owen J. Roberts school district student.

Sydney’s race car needed a modification to accommodate an ankle injury she suffered as result of playing lacrosse and soccer.

“The brake on the right was switched to the left,” she said of her car’s mechanism. 

Despite her bad sprain, Sydney said she couldn’t miss the race.

“I’ve been racing since I was eight years old,” she said. “I couldn’t imagine not being able to race.”
