"Willy Wonka, Junior" Coming To Pottstown

Tri-County Performing Arts Center and Village Productions will present "Willy Wonka, Junior" Aug. 13 - 14.

"Willy Wonka, Junior" will be performed at 7 p.m. Aug. 13, 3 p.m. Aug. 14 and 7 p.m. Aug. 14 at , 245 E. High St., Pottstown.

The performance, presented by Village Productions and Tri-County, is based on the children’s novel "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" by Roald Dahl.

The show includes a cast of roughly 30 local middle and high school students and is a product of Tri-PAC Performing Arts Summer Camp.

“They’re doing this outside of summer camp hours,” said Rebecca Shoemaker, operations manager for Tri-County. 

Shoemaker is also costuming the show.

“We’re trying to do this on a shoestring budget,” she said. “Our Oompa-Loompas might be a bit of a surprise.”

Other creative challenges include transforming the character Violet Beauregard into a blueberry balloon, Shoemaker said.

The show is expected to be colorful and fun, she said.

“The directors involved are impressed with the talent,” she said of the young actors in the production. “Everyone’s very excited for it.”

"Willy Wonka, Junior" will mark Tri-County Performing Arts’ first show to sell online tickets -- $8 per person -- with seat selection.

“It is selling well,” Shoemaker said. “We’re happy for that, too.”
