$1M For Riddle Hospital In Radnor: U.S. Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon

Congress cleared a $1.7 trillion spending package was sent to President Biden to sign on Christmas Eve.

RADNOR, PA — U.S. Rep Mary Gay Scanlon voted for a government funding package that included a $1 million allocation to renovate the intensive care and critical care nursing units at Riddle Hospital on Baltimore Pike here.

Once completed in 2024, the hospital will be equipped with all private patient rooms, contemporary facilities, and advanced technology to support the evolving needs of the community, Scanlon said.

The 65+ population within our surrounding neighborhoods is projected to grow by more than 20% in the years ahead.

Riddle Hospital provides inpatient and outpatient services to a 21% minority population.

The Riddle Hospital is one of 15 projects Scanlon, a Democrat, supported to benefit her district, which covers Delaware County.

Scanlon’s projects are part of the $1.7 trillion spending bill that passed Congress on Christmas Eve and is before President Joe Biden to sign.

“I am particularly pleased to have secured more than $20 million in funding for 15 high-quality community projects that each respond directly to one or more of our community’s most pressing needs,” Scanlon said.

The legislation also includes the Electoral Count Reform Act to protect the certification of American presidential elections from subversion.

“Throughout negotiations, House Democrats led with our values: fighting for common sense investments in health care, families, veterans, and our communities,” said Rep. Scanlon.

Other items included in the funding bill

The funding package also includes $5 billion to support the Department of Veterans Affairs in ensuring claims from veterans newly eligible under the landmark PACT Act are processed in a timely manner, a critical investment Rep. Scanlon set in motion and shepherded as the PACT Act first started making its way through Congress earlier this year.

According to Scanlon, other key victories include:

  • Protecting health coverage for Pennsylvania children enrolled in Medicaid and CHIP.
  • Supporting pregnant Pennsylvanians by permanently authorizing postpartum Medicaid. coverage and delivering historic funding for the Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting initiative.
  • Enacting the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, cracking down on workplace discrimination, safeguarding Americans' economic security, and upholding dignity on the job.
  • Bolstering mental health services by expanding access to treatment and investing in Pennsylvania’s mental health workforce.
  • Enacting the PREVENT Pandemics Act, using lessons learned from COVID-19 to improve Pennsylvania’s preparedness for future public health emergencies.
  • Strengthening veterans' health care through $21 billion in new funding.
  • Providing Pennsylvania’s kids with healthy, nutritious food throughout the summer with a nationwide, permanent Summer EBT Program.
  • Helping Pennsylvanians exercise their right to organize on the job through new funding for the National Labor Relations Board.
  • Delivering emergency disaster support to help hurricane and wildfire victims, address the water crisis in Jackson, Mississippi, and strengthen Puerto Rico’s electrical grid.
  • Advance justice for Americans impacted by terrorism with the Fairness for 9/11 Families Act.
