Fox Sightings Lead Main Line Police To Issue Safety Tips

While foxes are typically more active at dawn and dusk, seeing them during daylight hours in the Spring is normal, Radnor Police said.

RADNOR TOWNSHIP, PA — Authorities in Radnor Township have issued safety tips after receiving calls about foxes being spotted during the daytime recently.

Radnor Police and the Animal Control Office offered the following tips regarding foxes:

  • It is not uncommon to spot foxes out and about during the daytime. While foxes are typically more active at dawn and dusk, seeing them during daylight hours in the Spring is completely normal—and not usually a cause for concern.
  • During this time of year, adult foxes are especially busy. Spring marks the peak of their breeding and pup-rearing season. Parent foxes may be out more often during the day hunting for food to feed their young, which are usually born between March and May. This increased activity can make them more visible in neighborhoods, parks, and wooded areas.
  • It’s important to remember that seeing a fox during the day does not necessarily mean the animal is sick or dangerous. Healthy foxes can be active in daylight, especially when they are caring for pups or when food sources are abundant.
  • If you do see a fox, observe it from a distance and avoid feeding or approaching it, also ensure to keep children and pets away. Foxes are generally shy and prefer to avoid human interaction. If one appears sick (e.g., stumbling, acting aggressively, or showing signs of mange), contact 911 and report the issue, time, and location observed.
