Alum of Archbishop Carroll, Villanova Tapped to Lead Secret Service

Joseph Clancy, a Haverford native and graduate of Villanova University, on Wednesday was appointed by President Barack Obama to lead the Secret Service.

Clancy personally lead Obama’s detail until 2011, when he stepped down to take a job at Comcast, The Washington Post said.

Clancy has been leading the Secret Service on an interim basis on the past four months, The New York Times said.

Clancy graduated from Archbishop Carroll in Radnor, Main Line Media News said, and attended West Point before transferring to Villanova University.

The other man considered the top candidate for the job was former FBI deputy director Sean Joyce, The New York Times said.

The Secret Service protects national and visiting foreign leaders, and will provide security for Pope Francis when he is in Philadelphia from Sept. 22 to 27 for the World Meeting of Families.
