Another DUI Crackdown Planned In Delco This Weekend

Police in Haverford, Marple, Newtown, Radnor, and Springfield townships will be conducting roving DUI patrols this weekend.

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — Police in several Delaware County municipalities will be cracking down on impaired driving this weekend.

The Northern Delaware County DUI Taskforce will be conducting DUI crackdown operations Friday through Sunday.

Haverford, Marple, Newtown, Radnor and Springfield township police departments comprise the taskforce.

Since September 2009, the taskforce has conducted 121 operations.

These operations have resulted in 187 of alcohol or drug DUI arrests, 49 underage drinking citations, and 1,328 citations and 2,066 warnings for other motor vehicle violations.

"The purpose of the Northern Delaware County DUI Taskforce is to save lives on the roadways and reduce injuries by aggressively enforcing DUI laws," police said in a news release. "Sobriety checkpoints are a proactive visual deterrent while also removing impaired drivers; roving patrols are traffic details with the main goals to spot and stop possible impaired drivers before they can cause harm to innocent unsuspecting motorists traveling on our roadways."

Drivers 21 and older are urged to be responsible and never operate a motor vehicle while impaired.

They are reminded to read all instruction labels on prescription or over the counter medications carefully and make arrangements before to drinking alcohol for a designated driver.
