RADNOR, PA – Radnor Township School Board Tuesday night unanimously denied a proposal from the Pennsylvania Military Charter School at Valley Forge to open a charter school in the district.

The school board's decision followed public hearings on the application on Dec. 13, and Jan. 23.

The proposed charter school is not affiliated with the Valley Forge Military Academy or the Valley Forge Military College, 1001 Eagle Road, Wayne.

The applicant did not have an agreement to lease space at the academy, according to a 43-page adjudication prepared by the district administration and solicitor.

The decision marks the second time the board denied a proposal for the charter school.

The opinion concluded the proposed charter school does not meet the legal criteria to operate in the district.

The reasons also include not having an educational provider, a financial plan, or community support.

The district also noted that there is a public military school, the Philadelphia Military Academy at Elverson, which is 30 minutes from Radnor.

Amy Goldman, board president, said the school district is committed to ensuring that any entity that is considering a jurisdiction in the Radnor School District must be sound, safe, and legally compliant.

Goldman said the district has a skilled group of leaders that ensure the taxpayers are getting the best possible education.

Board member Susan Stern thanked the district administration for providing the work required to prepare the adjudication.
