How To Suppport Radnor Neighbors As SNAP Cuts Loom

About one in eight Americans use Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. As the program's suspension nears, here's how to help locally.

WAYNE, PA — The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program is about to be suspended amid the federal government shutdown.

Roughly one in eight Americans use the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to purchase groceries.

With the program's suspension looming on Saturday, many Radnor-area residents may be wondering how they can help their hungry neighbors.

The Wayne Cares food pantry accepts donations behind the Wayne United Methodist Church, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The food pantry provides one pre-packed bag of non-perishable groceries per household per week, while supplies last.

Items that are accepted for donation are, but not limited to:

  • canned tuna/chicken/meats
  • canned soup
  • canned beans
  • canned vegetables
  • canned fruit
  • jams/jellies/peanut butter
  • spaghetti sauce
  • pasta
  • mac & cheese
  • boxed rice & mashed potatoes
  • cereal
  • applesauce
  • meal kits (i.e. Hamburger Helper)
  • toiletries (i.e. toilet paper, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, etc.)

Residents can also support the pantry by shopping on its Amazon wishlist.

Monetary donations can also be made online here. The food pantry also accepts gift cards to grocers such as Acme and Giant.

More than 70 families use the food pantry on a weekly basis.

Food is distributed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. every Wednesday.

The pantry offers one bag of supplemental groceries, as well as a selection of dairy products, eggs, frozen meats and more in addition to our special weekly offerings:

  • First Wednesday of the month — Hygiene products
  • Second Wednesday of the month: Cleaning products
  • Third Wednesday of the month — Fresh produce year round and bagged lunches during the school year
  • Fourth Wednesday of the month — Fresh produce
