Man Drowns In Delaware County Creek Over Weekend: Police

Pennsylvania State Police said a man went swimming with a woman in the creek Saturday night but was caught in the current and drowned.

CHADDS FORD, PA — A man died while swimming in a Delaware County creek this weekend, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Sergio Ayala-Vilchis, 21, died by drowning in Brandywine Creek in Chadds Ford after going swimming in the water Saturday night, authorities said.

State police said Troopers were dispatched to a help with the search and rescue of a twenty-one-year-old man who was swimming in the Creek, at about 11:11 a.m. Sunday.

Members of the Concordville, Middletown, Longwood and Kennett fire departments and Riddle Hospital EMS were on scene when troopers arrived.

Authorities said Ayala-Vilchis was swimming with a woman he met at a club in Delaware Saturday night.

Ayala-Vilchis was swimming with a woman when he started to panic and could not swim in the current, police said. She was able to get out of the water, but lost sight of Ayala-Vilchis, according to authorities.

Middletown Township Engine 50, Search and Rescue team found Ayala-Vilchis's body in the middle of the creek, in about 8-foot-deep water.

The recovery was just south of State Route 1 west of Mill Road in Chadds Ford and also where Ayala-Vilchis and the woman initially entered the water.

The woman has fully cooperated with the investigation and the death has been ruled accidental.
