Radnor Residents Face Slight Tax Increase: Preliminary Budget

The township commissioners this week approved a $36.6 million preliminary budget.

RADNOR, PA —Radnor Township commissioners voted 5 -1 to pass a preliminary budget of $36.6 million, amounting a small tax increase over last year’s spending plan.

The proposed budget amounts to $124,850, or 0.3% over this year-years but is subject to possible changes.

The proposed millage increase amounts to .1028. This translates into a $69 tax increase per year, amounting to $1,319 per year for the median house assessed at $547,260.

The township’s millage rate in 2022 is 2.28, the proposed millage increase is 0.1028.

Commissioner Jake Abel voted against the proposed budget. Commissioner Lisa Borowski, who was elected state representative to being in January 2023, was not present.

The township has 131 employees when all positions are filled.

The township is in the midst of several stormwater upgrades that are funded by stormwater fees to residents. The fee is $20 for 7,000 square feet.

Status of finances

Township manager William M. White said for the past two years the township received $1.7 million from federal stimulus money due to the pandemic.

White provided the commissioners with a detailed report on the status of the township’s finances.

He said this year the township is in good shape, noting there are several buildings the township owns which will required upgrades in the future estimated at $9 million.

Infrastructure projects:

  • Under construction: stormwater retention project at the South Wayne parking lot and the culvert replacement under Malin Road (near Bryn Mawr Avenue).
  • Major stormwater reduction project at the West Wayne Preserve ready to go, pending approval from the state Department of Environmental Protection.
  • Intersection improvements at King of Prussia, Eagle, and Pine Tree roads
  • Pedestrian improvements along Lancaster near the Old Oaks neighborhood
  • Signal technology improvements planned along Lancaster bAvenue between North Wayne and the I-476 Interchange.
