Cleanup Event To Target Litter On Lincoln Drive In Wissahickon

Friends of the Wissahickon​ is inviting the public to help clean up the only main road that runs along the Wissahickon Creek in the park.

PHILADELPHIA — Nature lovers are invited to help keep the area around Wissahickon Valley Park beautiful by joining a spring cleanup event.

The cleanup event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon on April 5 along Lincoln Drive.

During the event, Friends of the Wissahickon will close Lincoln Drive from Wissahickon to Ridge avenue for a large-scale litter cleanup.

Volunteers are needed to help clear the extensive trash that collects along this heavily traveled roadway, the only main road that runs along the Wissahickon Creek within the Wissahickon Valley Park.

All are welcome to attend, and no experience is needed.

Friends of the Wissahickon will provide gloves, tools, and instruction. Volunteers should wear sturdy footwear and long pants, and bring water.

This cleanup day activities may include:

  • carrying trash bags up to 20 pounds;
  • hiking up to one mile up and down Lincoln Drive picking up trash;
  • and repetitive motions picking up trash.

Volunteers are urged to work within their own comfort level

Volunteers should meet at Historic Rittenhouse Town. See this map for the specific meeting location and parking options. Do not leave any valuables in your car, and note that parking along the paved lot along Lincoln Drive is not recommended, as it is the site of frequent car break-ins. There will be restroom access during the service day.

In the event of heavy rain and high wind, cancellation will be posted on Friends of the Wissahickon's website and social media
