Crews Investigate Cause of Weekend East Falls Underground Fire

The fire knocked out power for thousands in East Falls and Manayunk.

All but a small handful of residents in the Manayunk and East Falls sections of Philadelphia have their power restored as of Monday morning, according to the PECO service website.

More than 2,000 homes and businesses had their electricity shut off Saturday night after an underground transformer fire broke out in East Falls at approximately 7:45 p.m., according to NBC 10.

First responders had the fire on the 3700 block of Main Street contained shortly after the alert, and approximately 1,000 customers had their power back by 10:30 p.m., PECO officials told NBC.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No injuries were reported.
