Farmers Market: Every Friday there's a Farmers Market in Gorgas Park organized by the Roxborough Development Corporation. The market runs from 2-6 p.m., and, as an added bonus, vendors accept debit and credit cards.
Whispers Along the Wissahickon: Join the Friends of the Wissahickon (FOW) on Friday, October 18, 2013, as they celebrate the tenth anniversary of Whispers Along the Wissahickon, the popular fall celebration that has become a fall tradition for many Philadelphia families. A variety of activities will be offered: hay rides, face painting, live music, a large bon-fire, and more. The event will be held at the Wissahickon Environmental Center, at 300 Northwestern Avenue (19118) from 5:30 to 9 p.m. A casual dinner, beer, wine, and other beverages will be served.
Hallowyunk 5K: There will be a 5K race in Manayunk on Saturday, Oct. 19, starting at 8 a.m. Here's how the organizers describe it: "A race so
fun it’s scary! The Hallowyunk 5k is a fantastic autumn run through downtown Manayunk with prizes to overall & age group winners, plus recognition for best costumes! Prizes will be given out during the post-race party at Kildare’s Pub.
Geology Hike: The Friends of the Wissahickon will host a geology hike on Saturday, October 19, at 3 p.m. starting at Valley Green Inn. Distance: 1.5 miles along a rough, steep trail on the east side of the creek upstream from Valley Green. It can be slippery or muddy in places. This hike is suitable for children over ten accompanied by a responsible adult. Bring water and wear sturdy footwear. Duration: 1.75 hours.
