Philadelphia Named One Of The Worst Cities For Families Nationwide

Philadelphia may be hosting the World Meeting of Families in September, but it's not the best choice for the average family, a study says.

Philadelphia may be hosting Pope Francis and the World Meeting of Families in September, but it’s not a good choice for the average family, according to a new study.

The city ranked 128 out of the 150 most populous cities surveyed by WalletHub.

The study was compiled based on five key factors: family activities, health and safety, education and child care, affordability, and socioeconomic environment.

The list was designed to help families find ideal places to live.

“The key...whether you’re a newly married couple or a victim of America’s economic transition – is to choose an area conducive to economic prosperity and the overall pursuit of happiness,” the study states.

While Philly ranked 30th overall in the “education and child care” category, they scored poorly in the other four metrics, including an abysmal 144th placing for affordability.

Overland Park, Kansas, was crowned the best place for families, while Jackson, Mississippi was named the worst.

Ten out of the lowest 11 rankings on the list came from states in the southeast.
