Missing Philly CEO Reported Dead from Amtrak Derailment

Rachel Jacobs was on board Amtrak Train 188 when it derailed Tuesday night and had not been heard from since the incident.

The CEO of a Philadelphia technology firm reported missing by her co-workers following Tuesday’s Amtrak derailment has died, according to the New York Times.

Rachel Jacobs, who was on board Amtrak Train 188 when it derailed in Port Richmond Tuesday night, had been reported missing by the company’s social media account. The New York Times reports that a family member texted one of Jacobs’ friends Wednesday afternoon to confirm her death.

Family and friends had been searching for Rachel Jacobs since the derailment on the Frankford curve Tuesday night. Jacobs, 39, wife and mother of a 2-year-old, is the CEO of ApprenNet, a company that develops learning technology. According to WPIX, Jacobs commuted from Manhattan twice a week.

During a press conference Wednesday morning, Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter said that not every passenger has been accounted for in the aftermath of the accident. Emergency personnel have been working to match up the manifest with passengers who have been taken to area hospitals, purchased a ticket but did not board or walked away from the scene and found other transportation.

Seven people have been confirmed dead, including Justin Zemser, 20, a student from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Jim Gaines, 48, an employee of the Associated Press who lived in Plainsboro, N.J., and Abid Gilani, a senior vice president at Wells Fargo.
