Philly Earning "Rudest" Rap on Twitter

Twitter study analyzed by some to say Philly angriest city.

Similar to the reputation of Eagles fans "booing" Santa Claus, a potentially unfounded bad rap is emerging on how angry Philadelphia Twitter users are.

Ukrainian company Vertalab compiled tweets originating in 462 cities across the United States and created a Twitter heatmap based on attitudes. From that research, some websites concluded that Philadelphia contained the most negative tweets.

However, as The Philadelphia Inquirer pointed out, the study possessed some flaws. For one, the determination of positive or negative attitudes was based on only one phrase for each—"Good morning" and "F*** you."

For another, while Philly charted high on some days, other cities bested it on others. And Philadelphia even earned the nicest city honor on June 20.

Vertalab said it conducted the study by doing the following:

"In order to get enough data for creating an animation we scanned Twitter at intervals approximately once per hour. Number of tweets for each point in current scanning was calculated relatively to the previous scanning. Having this data we calculated the absolute distributed in time density of tweets."

Other news outlets arrived at different conclusions. The Huffington Post (part of Patch parent company AOL's media holdings) instead pointed to Chicago and Los Angeles for negative tweets. Syracuse.com said Buffalo ranked high, as well.

As a Philadelphia-based Twitter user myself, I usually find my interactions on the @RoxboroughPatch handle positive.

But what do you think?
