Police Need Donations for Holiday Kids Party

5th District asks residents to pitch in for annual party.

A longstanding tradition for the 5th District Philadelphia Police Department is its annual Children's Christmas Party for Roxborough students. In fact, the 2012 holiday party installment will make it 44 years the precinct has held the event.

Leading up to the Dec. 12 party, Police Captain John Cerrone asks residents to pitch in and donate gifts for the school children, usually from Shawmont Elementary School.

In an October letter to residents, Cerrone made his case:

Fifth District Police Officers, in cooperation with local businesses, will hold a fun-filled Christmas Party for boys and girls from our local schools. Past support from citizens and businesses like yours have made this party a joyous success. Won't you help?

People may donate toys directly to the department by dropping them off at 6666 Ridge Ave.

Additionally, residents may write a check made out to "5th District Christmas Party."

"I want to thank you for any consideration you give this worthwhile effort and at the same time, please let me wish you a Happy Holiday Season," Cerrone said.
