Serial Bank Robber Caught, Police Say

Police have charged Philadelphia resident Tarik Hooks with multiple counts of bank robbery after they say he robbed nine banks in three weeks in the Philadelphia area.

Starting on Feb. 2, police say Hooks robbed several banks from Bala Cynwyd to Drexel Hill, including the TD Bank located at 5501 Ridge Ave.

Hooks attempted to rob the Roxborough TD Bank on two separate occasions just three days apart, police say. 

According to police, the first attempted robbery occurred on Feb. 14 and the second occurred on Feb. 17.  .

At the first TD Bank robbery attempt on Feb. 14, police say that Hooks gave a note to the teller that read “Need Cash.”  When the teller asked Hooks if he had an account he fled.

Three days later, Hooks returned to the TD Bank and again handed a note to the teller.  This note read: “This is a robbery.  No bait.  No dye.  All money,” police say.

Police say that Hooks then verbally demanded the teller give him money by saying “Bottom drawer, no dye pack, no bait.”

Hooks then received approximately $1,290 from the victim teller’s drawer and exited the TD Bank and fled north on Ridge Ave., police say.

On Feb. 22, members of the Philadelphia police department and the Phildelphia FBI executed an arrest warrant for Hooks at his residence on the 6100 block of Spruce Street where Hooks was taken into custody.
