Springfield Fire Co. Honors Phila. 'Brother'

The flag at Springfield Co. 44 on Saxer Ave. flew at half staff Monday in tribute to Philadelphia Fire Captain Michael Goodwin.

NBC 10 reports that Goodwin died Saturday while combating a fire in South Philadelphia at the intersection of Fourth and Fitzwater streets.

According to one Springfield firefighter who spoke with Patch Goodwin was a personal friend and mentor to several of the Springfield volunteer firefighters who also work full time for the Philadelphia Fire Department.

Goodwin, 53, is the third Philadelphia firefighter to die on the job within the year.

His funeral is scheduled for Thursday.
