The Stem Club is led by eighth-graders, Seth Jacob and Joseph Couchara, who are thrilled to share their knowledge of STEM with their peers. Seth and Joseph led the group in selecting a final project the club would work on together throughout the year. The students came up with the idea of creating a Wind Turbine.

The project is ambitious and generous, as it will be a gift to the entire community. The students decided the Wind Turbine will be housed at the Springfield Library Park for community members to use as a free charging station.

Seth and Joseph say, "Our initial idea for the wind turbine was to create a source of renewable energy to help our school community. When we realized that we would not be able to create a large source of renewable energy, we decided we would expand our effect and establish a wind turbine to charge an outlet in the Springfield Library Park. Our biggest hope for the club, however, is that we can make a great impact on our community and our school."

The windmill will be 10 ft. tall, with a diameter of 6 in., and a blade length of 4.5 ft. They will be using fiberglass for the windmill blades, as they are light and efficient.

The Springfield School District is proud of the members of the STEM Club for their generosity and creativity. We look forward to the finished project and enjoying it for years to come.
