Another TE Business Abruptly Closes Down

It's been a tough few years for a lot of small businesses along the Upper Main Line. Now another has shuttered its doors for good.

A handwritten "out of business" sign now hangs on the door at Carangi's Bakery where fans of the Italian bakery used to enter for pizza, pastries and specialty breads.

The Paoli shop which opened in 2009 was a satellite for Carangi's main store in the Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia.

A call to the Philadelphia store in the wee hours of Monday morning confrimed that the flagship location is open and bakers are working in the middle of the night for the morning rush, despite the decision to shut down operations in Paoli.

Main Line Dine posted a short entry about Carangi's last Thursday morning on the Main Line Dine Facebook page saying "it's been a tough month for Carangi bakery - first their Paoli location closed, then they lost their contract to supply bread for DiNics "best sandwich in America" (to Sarcones)."

Patch has not yet gotten independent confirmation of that report and what, if any, part it played in the decision to close the Paoli location. We are following this story and will keep you up to date on new developments.

Carangi's closing means a second store in the small strip of shops at the corner of Lancaster Ave and Longecorse Lane is now vacant. A fireplace and patio store is also up for rent in the storefront next door to Carangi in the same small shopping center. (it's directly across Longecorse Lane from the new Paoli Pharmacy location).
