STDs Outpace Flu in 2012, Report Says

Turns out, there were 952 confirmed cases of chlamydia in Chester County last year, and only 41 total confirmed cases of influenza strains.
That information comes from the Chester County Health Department, whose recently released quarterly newsletter features a list of Confirmed Communicable Disease Reports, drawn from provisional data for 2012.

Other tidbits from the report:
- 806 total animal bites (rabid and otherwise)
- One bite each from a rabid deer and a rabid skunk
- 14 rabid raccoon bites
- 102 cases of salmonella, the most prevalent enteric (intenstinal) disease
- 4 cases of clinically active tuberculosis
- 134 cases of pertussis, by far the most of any vaccine preventable illness
