As Storm Looms,Townships Request: Do This NOW

Tredyffrin and Easttown Townships are asking residents to prepare NOW for the possibility of Hurricane Sandy or its remnants to sock the region with heavy winds and soaking rains.

In addition to preparing your own property by bringing in any outdoor items that could be blown around, the number one request for community assistance at this point (early Satursday afternoon) is to help clear storm drains.

Falling leaves, which have increased dramatically in the past few days, present one of the biggest threats to draining storm waters from streets.

When contacted by TE Patch on Friday afternoon Easttown Township Manager Mike Brown echoed the requests being made this weekend by Tredyffrin and Chester County officials.

If you live on a street with a storm drain, please help public works crews by clearing storm drain inlets of any leaves or debris.

Brown explained that while Easttown Public Works crews have been working hard to clear drains, falling leaves and the sheer number of storm drains make it impossible for township crews to keep every single one clear.

Tredyffrin Township faces the same concerns, especially in flood prone areas.

Tredyffrin Township's Police and Public Works Departments are working with the County and local fire companies to make necessary preparations for potential impacts of Hurricane Sandy, including the possibility of major flooding and power outages. We ask that residents review hurricane preparedness tips to prepare for the storm and, during the storm, refrain from nonessential travel.

A message from Tredyffrin's Police Chief

I am urging all residents to begin storm preparations as soon as possible. We remind them to stock up with extra water and food items. Additionally, I am asking residents to limit their travel on the roads during the storm to necessary travel only.

We are continuing to make preparations within our agency and township services in conjunction with county and state resources.

I also urge residents to review the township website for additional preparation tips and information.
