Backyard Eco Tour Offers Ideas, Inspiration

Pre-registration is now open for Saturdays's self guided tour of creative and eco-friendly gardens in Tredyffrin.

Gardeners, aspring gardeners and people who want to see some of the most creative uses of natural landscapes can pre-register now for the 2011 Tredyffrin Back Yard Eco Tour being held Saturday (July 16) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. all over Tredyffrin.

There is a $10 fee to take the self guided tour.Children and teens under 18 are admitted free. You can pre-register on the TTDEMS website. In-person registration is also available Saturday starting at 9:45a.m. at the

The event is sponsored by Tredyffrin Township Democrats who bill this as a non-partisan event open to anyone and presented for the benefit of the community. However, a TTDEMS representative confirms to Patch that any profits from the event will go to the Tredyffrin Township Democrats.

Pre-registration is not required, but organizers are hoping to get a rough idea of how many people to expect so that they can have enough educational handouts available.

The tour includes Penn Medicine Valley Forge's new green roof, private homes that have turned wetlands into gardens and several other properties that have incorporated easy to do ideas like kitchen waste composting and using captured rain water to save money and make practical use of things virtually every home has at hand.

There will also be several unique vegetable gardens on the tour that can inspire gardeners of all skill levels.
