In October, the township purchased the 6.3-acre property at 1485 Valley Forge Road from Cradle of Liberty Council Inc, Boy Scouts of America for $1.8 million.

The fire company provides services to both Tredyffrin and Easttown townships. Tredyffrin Township has a population of 29,461, and Easttown has a population of 10,646.

Matt Holt, vice chairman, said the station will provide faster service to Chesterbrook, Glenhardie and the Swedesford Road corridor.

The purchase of the building is part of an $8 million capital improvement project that also includes updating the 93-year-old station on Bridge Avenue.

The plan is to put up a temporary station near the Bridge Avenue station while the building is renovated.

The new firehouse will feature four apparatus bays, four private bedrooms and bathrooms, a common bedroom, and a laundry room.

In addition, it will have a kitchen, fitness room, office space, radio room, emergency management coordination room, and additional storage space. It will also have cold, warm, and hot zones to reduce carcinogen exposure.

The Berwyn Fire Company has 70 volunteers, 10 full-time employees, and 28 part-time employees respond to more than 2,150 ambulance calls and 900 fire calls annually.

In addition to emergency calls, its emergency first responders spend approximately 1,000 hours per year training to prepare for scenarios when every second counts.
