Code Orange and Heat Advisories Issued for Tuesday

High heat and humidity could make breathing tougher for some people.

The Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission has issued a code orange alert for Chester County and much of the area surrounding Philadelphia and its suburbs.

The alert means that air pollution could become unhealthy for people in sensitive groups including young children, the elderly and people with asthma, heart disease and other lung diseases.

In addition to the code orange alert, the National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory that will be in effect until 8p.m. Tuesday for Chester County and a wide  section of the region, including most of Southeastern Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey and the State of Delaware.

The weather service reports that the heat index (what the combination of heat and humidity actually feel like) could top out around 105 degrees. The advisory suggests taking frequent breaks if you work outside, drinking plenty of liquids and checking on relatives and neighbors, especially the elderly.
