Devon Horse Show Makes Record Donation

It's been more than six months since the best of the equestrian world won their laurels at Dixon Oval. Now the real winners of the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair are celebrating with a check ceremony featuring the largest donation in Devon's History.

Officials from the 2011 Devon Horse Show and Country Fair presented a check for $402,000 to hospital officials during ceremonies Friday evening at the hospital.

Horse Show PR Chairwoman Karin Maynard says the donation will be used to fund a variety of needed equipment that is currently unfunded including; two Cardiac Catheterization Lab Fast Track Holding Bays, a pediatric anesthesia monitoring and gas system and a SonoSite ultrasound machine.

How the money will be put to use

“We are honored that the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair has recognized the Cardiac Cath Lab this year “ says  Antonio Pratos, MD in a press release. “We will use this donation to expand our holding area bays for two more patients in order to accommodate our increasing patient volume. We are now using radial (wrist) access for more than half of our patients undergoing cardiac catheterization for elective and emergent stent procedures. This allows rapid patient ambulation and discharge, increased patient comfort and minimizes risk of bleeding. The donation will be used to create a radial lounge with recliner chairs instead of stretchers. We are truly grateful to the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair for their support of these much needed fast track holding bays.”

The Devon Horse show and Country Fair has donated over $14 million to the hospital since 1972. Founded in 1896 it is one of the biggest volunteer charitable endeavors in the nation.
