Devon Horse Show Tree Sale Starts Friday

The sixth annual Devon Horse Show Christmas Tree sale kicks off today, Friday, December 2, at 4:30 p.m. at the former Sunoco station lot next to the Horse Show grounds on Lancaster Avenue.

The sale will feature 6-10 foot tall Douglas Fir and Frasier Fir trees cut fresh this week in the Poconos.  Devon Country Fair Executive Committee member Mimi Killian tells Patch this should be a great year for the Pennsylvania-grown trees because of the amount of rainfall.

The sale is staffed completely by volunteers who will help customers and cut the bottoms to fit stands, including drilling the trunks of trees for customers with stands that have posts to help stabilize the tree. The volunteers will also bag the trees and help get it into customers' cars.

Killian estimates prices will be between $65-$85 which is "competitive with other Christmas tree sellers in the area."

The sale runs this weekend (December 2,3,4) and next (December 9,10,11).

Hours are:

•Friday 4:30-7:30 p.m.

•Saturday 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m.

•Sunday 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Killian says last year's sale raised about $9,000 for the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair Foundation, which is the non-profit foundation responsible for the actual operations of the Horse Show and Country Fair.

The Horse Show and Country Fair benefit Bryn Mawr Hospital. This year's donation will be announced and presented to the hospital during ceremonies next Friday.
