Paterno News Conference Canceled, Penn State Football Coach Mobbed by Media at his Home

As the New York Times reports Joe Paterno will be forced to resign, the coach tells reporters he wanted to talk.

says he wanted to hold his regularly scheduled news conference Tuesday to address questions surrounding his role in a sex scandal that has enveloped the University and its football program.

Paterno has not been charged with any crime in connection with the allegations that former Penn State Defensive Coordinator Jerry Sandusky sexually molested young boys in Sandusky charity sports program for underprivileged children. U.S. Representative Patrick Meehan (R-PA7) whose district includes parts of Easttown and Tredyffrin is calling on a federal investigation into why reports of the assaults were not immediately relayed to law enforcement by Paterno and members of the University administration that Paterno reports to. Meehan is a former federal prosecutor.

Paterno's scheduled weekly news conference was abruptly canceled Tuesday afternoon. A few hours later, Paterno was mobbed by television cameras outside his home near the Penn State campus. Paterno said he had wanted to talk to the media but was not permitted to.
