Snow Business: Cost of The Halloween Weekend Storm in Tredyffrin
The Halloween weekend storm adds insult to injury in an expensive year for storms in Tredyffrin.
In a year that saw intense snow storms and Hurricane Irene blow through the Upper Main Line, the Halloween weekend storm was just another expensive headache that nobody could have seen coming back in December 2011. That's when Tredyffrin Township Supervisors approved the 2011 operating budget.
tells Patch the October 29 Halloween weekend storm ended up costing the township "$10,300 for overtime, salt and a contractor to chip up trees."
The storm simply adds to the cost overruns for storm clean-up in the 2011 township budget. According to Gleason's November 21 budget preliminary 2012 budget presentation to the Tredyffrin Township Board of Supervisors, actual costs for 2011 are running over budget. According to the memo the township is currently forecast to end the year $335,000 over what was budgeted "primarily due to storm response this year."

That deficit includes the a budget shortfall created by unexpected storms in 2011 that will be carried over into the 2012 budget.
