So Close and Yet.... Sugartown Road Bridge Re-Opening Now Just Weeks Away
It looks like it's almost done, so what's the delay? An answer from Easttown Township and a date from PennDOT.
The Sugartown Road Bridge reconstruction project looks like it's almost done. The stone work is done, the bridge deck is finished and yet the bridge and the road remain closed.
It is a PennDOT project, and not controlled by the Township at all. According to a letter posted on the Easttown Township website, the hold up is the guard rails that need to be installed on the approaches to the actual bridge.
The open letter from Easttown Public Works Director Gary Bernhard says "the contractor renovating the bridge has informed the township..that there is a a utility conflict in anchoring the new guide rails. A PECO electric and gas line, a Verizon telecommunications line, and a storm sewer pipe are apparently in the way. the contractor reports that PennDOT has not yet aproved a new anchoring scheme."
